Gina Anantharajah
Drum Works Tutor
Gina Anantharajah is a freelance percussionist, workshop leader and teacher specialising in world percussion and drum kit. She currently gives drum kit tuition and runs workshops in Latin percussion whilst running and assisting African drumming sessions with Drum Head (Southwark music hub).
Having trained in orchestral percussion at Goldsmiths, Sri lankan drumming with Piyasara Shipadhipathi, Samba Reggae with Dende Nation and with experience in playing candomble, maracatu, bata and west African styles, she also found herself drawn to popular music.
This lead her to perform across the Uk and abroad with various bands, djs and ensembles. Most notably of these was Sonarfly which later became The Noisettes, Australian singer songwriter Saritah, jungle producer Congo Natty, and live drum n bass act Dr Meaker. She has performed at festivals such as Glastonbury and Shambala and such venues as The Jazz Cafe, Koko, Scala, Brixton Electric, and Cargo.
She is currently embarking on teacher training for specialists and non-music specialists in whole class percussion workshops for the greater London area on behalf of Drums for Schools.
