Chiel is a composer, music producer and cross-arts collaborator. He originates from the Netherlands, where he graduated with distinction from the Composition, Music and Studio Production course at the Prince Claus Conservatoire. He then went on to complete the Leadership Masters programme at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, supported by the Performing Art Fund NL, the Prins Bernhard Culture Fund and the Andrea Elkenbracht Fund.
Chiel writes his own music under the pseudonym Mondryaan, in which he combines left-field electronic music with modern day folk influences with folk singers Teresa Campos and Maya Khaldi. Mondryaan is released on WW Records.
Alongside writing his own music Chiel is involved in writing and orchestrating the music for the Two Wolves with Trisha Ward, has been involved as a Creative and Music Director in the theatre series Tell Tales by theatre company Jackdaw, has been the Music Director at the Aldeburgh Music Festival performing Eine Briese and Music Director and electronic sound specialist at the multidisciplinary show A Dutchman in the fleeting world which played at the Peter de Grote festival.
Chiel works as a workshop leader for several institutions including Aldeburgh Young Musicians, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, the Three Music Schools League in Japan and TivoliVredenburg in the Netherlands.
Chiel takes on a number of commissions for classical compositions each year. Amongst these have been Toekomst (Future) for Stichting Muziek Grootegast, a piece for 180 amateur players, Conscientization for Ray Hearne, a piece for brass septet and percussion, and Eeuwig Licht (Eternal Light), for Chamber Choir A Cappeli to write a piece for Choir and Piano with text by Joost Oomen.
